It's common to see differences between the odds offered on Polymarket and those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often set odds to reflect public betting patterns and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by betting on both venues. However, it's important to remember that prediction markets and sportsbooks have different risk profiles and cater to different types of bettors.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders deposit funds and buy or sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Tamura vs Ozeki match. As more shares are traded, the price of each share adjusts to reflect the collective probability assigned by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share represents the implied probability of that outcome occurring, and traders aim to profit by accurately predicting the event's result. The current market reflects the aggregated predictions of all traders on Polymarket.
