Typically, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, aiming to profit regardless of the outcome. This market, however, reflects the pure collective wisdom of traders, theoretically providing more accurate probabilities. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market dynamically adjusts based on real-money wagers, potentially identifying discrepancies or overlooked factors that sportsbooks haven't fully priced in. It’s important to compare both to form a well-rounded assessment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes of the Kokkinis vs Yamaguchi match, and the price of each share reflects the market’s implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts, providing a dynamic and real-time assessment of expectations. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or opinions.
