Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like promotional offers or biases, while this market relies on the collective judgment of informed traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access or analytical approaches. If you find significant differences between the odds on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks, it could signal an opportunity to exploit a mispricing or a differing assessment of the probabilities involved.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand; increased buying pressure raises the price, indicating growing confidence, while selling pressure lowers it. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust predictions accordingly.
