Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to profit by balancing action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If prediction market participants collectively believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, they can take positions that drive the prediction market price closer to their assessment of the true probability. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Garland vs Wei match. The price of each share reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, indicating growing confidence in that result. Conversely, increased selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of its participants.
