Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of individuals, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market incorporates a broader range of information and perspectives from traders. It's common to see discrepancies, especially when there's significant public interest or disagreement about the likely outcome. Comparing the odds can reveal where the crowd believes there's value or mispricing relative to traditional betting markets.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a growing belief in its likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market dynamically adjusts to new information and changing sentiment, providing a real-time assessment of expectations for the Dodin vs Johnson match.
