Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often incorporating information and analysis beyond what's readily available to traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert opinions, this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, potentially leading to odds that more accurately predict the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, biases, or simply variations in opinion among market participants and sportsbook analysts. It's common to see prediction markets react more quickly to breaking news or changing circumstances than traditional betting venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the market price adjusts to reflect the collective intelligence of the crowd. The more shares purchased for a particular outcome, the higher its price becomes, indicating increased confidence in that result. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information and changing perceptions.
