Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade based on their own insights. If prediction market odds significantly diverge from sportsbook odds, it may indicate that market participants possess information not yet fully incorporated by sportsbooks. It's important to remember that both represent probabilities, but are derived from different sources and methodologies.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a probability estimate. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a specific outcome, the higher its price climbs, indicating greater confidence from market participants. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities as the event approaches.
