Prediction market odds often reflect a different kind of wisdom than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market aggregates the beliefs of a diverse group of traders. This can lead to differences in probabilities, especially when public opinion diverges from expert analysis. Typically, prediction markets are considered to be more accurate than traditional polls or expert forecasts, as they incentivize participants to express their true beliefs. However, sportsbook odds still provide a valuable point of comparison for assessing the perceived likelihood of different outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants, constantly adjusting as new information becomes available. The current price reflects the aggregated predictions of traders on Polymarket.
