Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different kind of wisdom than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective intelligence of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. As a result, you may find discrepancies between the implied probabilities on Polymarket and those offered by traditional sportsbooks. These differences can arise from varying information sources, differing risk assessments, or simply the dynamics of each type of betting venue.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing each possible outcome—in this case, a win for either Paganetti or Pistola. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, directly reflecting the market’s assessment of each player’s probability of winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movement is driven by new information, trader sentiment, and the overall volume of trading activity. This creates a dynamic and real-time forecast of the event’s outcome.
