Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to collectively express their beliefs about the probability of each player winning. If there's a significant discrepancy, it might indicate that the market perceives information differently than sportsbooks, or that one venue has incorporated news more quickly. It’s important to compare these odds to understand where the market and sportsbooks agree or disagree on the likely outcome of the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants, constantly updating as new information becomes available. The current implied probabilities are determined solely by trading activity on Polymarket.
