Prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and profit margins, this market represents the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders. Frequently, prediction markets are more accurate than sportsbook odds, especially when there’s significant public interest and information available. However, discrepancies can occur due to differing risk assessments and the incentives of each type of participant. It's important to consider both sources when forming your own opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a specific outcome, its price increases, and the implied probability rises. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is entirely determined by supply and demand, reflecting the aggregated predictions of all participants. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information and changing sentiment.
