Prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, potentially differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven by traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, biases, or simply the collective intelligence of the prediction market participants. Examining these differences can highlight where the crowd disagrees with professional oddsmakers and potentially identify undervalued opportunities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure drives prices down. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the aggregated beliefs of all participants, creating a constantly updated forecast for the W35 Reus tennis match.
