Prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven purely by traders’ willingness to buy or sell based on their individual assessments. If there’s a significant discrepancy, arbitrage opportunities may arise, attracting traders who aim to profit from the difference. It’s common to see prediction markets incorporate information faster than sportsbooks, especially in response to breaking news or late-developing insights about the players involved.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the share price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the crowd and provides a real-time assessment of the potential result of the W35 Reims match.
