Often, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds to maximize profit, factoring in a margin for themselves, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. As a result, you may see discrepancies between the two. Generally, prediction markets tend to be more accurate than sportsbook odds, especially when there's significant public interest and trading volume. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities based on different methodologies and available information.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and it dynamically adjusts as new information becomes available or sentiment shifts. This creates a constantly updating forecast of the event’s outcome.
