Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market aims to represent the true probabilities as assessed by a diverse group of traders. If there's a significant difference between the two, it might indicate disagreement about the likely outcome or differing levels of information available to each group. It’s worth comparing to see if the crowd believes one player has a better chance than implied by traditional betting lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each player winning. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust, creating a dynamic representation of collective predictions. The market's price movements are driven by supply and demand for shares, influenced by factors like player form, head-to-head records, and recent match results.
