Prediction market odds often reflect a different kind of wisdom than sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks typically set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective intelligence of traders. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook is mispricing the event, we may see divergence between the two. Generally, prediction markets tend to be more accurate than traditional polls or expert opinions, and can sometimes offer better odds than sportsbooks, especially when there is strong consensus among traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants.
