Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook odds set by oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may initially incorporate biases or focus on public perception, while this market aggregates the views of many individual traders. Over time, as more information becomes available and more traders participate, the odds on Polymarket can converge with or diverge from sportsbook lines. It’s common to see prediction markets more accurately forecast probabilities, especially as the event approaches, as they dynamically adjust to new information and collective insight.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe a particular player will win, the higher the price of shares representing that outcome will rise, and vice versa. This creates a dynamic pricing system that reflects the collective intelligence of the crowd and adjusts in real-time based on new information and trading activity.
