Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert opinions, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs. If a significant discrepancy exists between prediction market probabilities and sportsbook implied probabilities, it might suggest the market perceives information differently or has access to unique insights. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, and neither is guaranteed to be accurate.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes. The price of each share reflects the market's current assessment of the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust accordingly. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is solely determined by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and does not rely on external factors or oracles beyond the event’s eventual outcome.
