Prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly when there's strong public sentiment or information asymmetry. It's common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information, as traders react quickly to developments. Comparing the two can offer a broader understanding of potential outcomes and highlight areas where the market believes there's value.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome.
