Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which are set by professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public betting patterns and risk management into their lines, while this market relies on individuals’ independent assessments of the players’ chances. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the same data. It’s common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbooks, especially as new information becomes available or as the event draws closer.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in a particular outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants.
