Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of crowd. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply a larger number of participants contributing to the prediction market price. If you find a significant difference between the odds on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks, it may indicate an opportunity for value betting, depending on your own assessment of the players' chances.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a growing expectation that it will happen. Conversely, selling pressure drives the price down. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds always reflect the most up-to-date collective prediction of the traders.
