Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of people believe a sportsbook is mispricing a player's chances, the prediction market may show a different probability. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially early in the market’s life, as information and opinions evolve. Examining these differences can be insightful for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Monastir tennis match. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. The market’s efficiency depends on the number of participants and the information they bring to bear. The current price indicates what the crowd believes is the fair chance of a particular player winning.
