Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on models and internal risk assessments, while this market’s pricing is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in how each entity interprets the available data. It's common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information than sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price fluctuates based on supply and demand; if more people believe a particular outcome is likely, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date collective prediction.
