Prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on their own models and to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the views of many individual traders. This can lead to discrepancies, especially when public sentiment strongly deviates from the sportsbook's initial assessment. It's common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information or shifts in public opinion than traditional betting venues, offering a potentially more dynamic view of the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts accordingly, providing a constantly updated assessment of the match’s potential result. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, showcasing the collective intelligence of its users.
