Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially as the event approaches. Sportsbooks may incorporate biases or seek to profit from public perception, while this market aggregates the views of many independent traders. However, initial sportsbook lines often influence early trading here. It's common to see the odds on Polymarket converge towards those offered by major sportsbooks as more information becomes available and the event draws nearer.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are bought for a specific player, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher implied probability of that player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven by supply and demand, with traders constantly adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis of the players’ form and potential performance.
