Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own research and insights. If prediction market odds diverge significantly from sportsbook lines, it may indicate that market participants have access to information or perspectives not fully incorporated by sportsbooks. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, and discrepancies can occur due to differing methodologies and participant biases.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability, with higher prices indicating a greater perceived chance of success. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts dynamically, providing a real-time assessment of the event's potential outcomes. The market's depth and volume contribute to the accuracy and efficiency of price discovery.
