Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective intelligence of traders on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probabilities of each outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, prediction markets can quickly adjust as new information becomes available and more people participate. It's common to see discrepancies, especially as the event draws closer.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price fluctuates, providing a real-time assessment of expectations for the Maanshan tennis match. The platform's design allows for dynamic price discovery based on supply and demand for these prediction shares.
