Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set their lines based on models and internal analysis, while this market aggregates the predictions of many individuals. If a significant number of people believe a particular outcome is more likely than sportsbooks suggest, the odds on Polymarket will adjust accordingly. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before a lot of money has been traded, as the market discovers and incorporates information.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. As more shares are traded, the price of each share adjusts to reflect the collective opinion of the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring; a higher price indicates a greater perceived chance of success. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date information and predictions.
