Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the opinions of many individual traders. This often leads to prediction markets being more accurate, particularly when there's significant public interest or information asymmetry. However, sportsbook odds can sometimes offer value if they diverge substantially from the prediction market price, indicating a potential mispricing that traders haven’t yet corrected.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each player winning. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. As more people buy shares in a particular player, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence in their victory. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is driven entirely by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis of the match.
