Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different kind of wisdom than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability as assessed by traders. This market, like others, can sometimes show divergence from sportsbook lines due to differing information or perspectives. It's common to see prediction markets respond more quickly to new information and potentially offer more accurate probabilities, but sportsbook odds still provide a valuable point of comparison for assessing the potential value in this market.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. Conversely, selling pressure drives the price down. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants trading on Polymarket.
