Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the players’ form. It’s common to see this market move independently of sportsbook odds, especially as new information becomes available and traders adjust their positions.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, the price of those shares increases, indicating a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of shares directly translates to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. The market efficiently incorporates new information as traders react to news and updates related to the players and the match.
