Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets, like this one, are driven purely by the collective wisdom of traders. This can lead to discrepancies, as the market reflects what people genuinely believe will happen, rather than a bookmaker's assessment adjusted for profit margins. It's common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbook predictions, especially when there’s significant public interest in an event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence of participants regarding the Dijon tennis match.
