Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish initial lines based on their analysis, aiming to balance action on both sides. This market, however, allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, leading to odds that can diverge from sportsbook lines as new information emerges or public opinion shifts. It’s common to see prediction markets react more quickly to developments than traditional betting venues, as the continuous trading process incorporates new data efficiently.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of each share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a growing expectation of its likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined entirely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, creating a dynamic and responsive assessment of the match's potential result.
