Typically, prediction market odds represent a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook odds which can be influenced by factors like public bias or promotional offers. Sportsbooks may adjust their lines based on betting action, but this market allows traders to independently assess the probabilities. While sportsbooks often include a 'vig' or commission, prediction markets generally have lower transaction costs. It’s common to see prediction market prices more closely align with true probabilities as the event approaches, potentially offering different value than traditional sports betting.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome.
