Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. This market, like others, can reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially incorporating information not fully captured by sportsbook algorithms. While sportsbooks primarily cater to casual bettors, prediction markets tend to attract more informed participants. Therefore, discrepancies can arise, with this market potentially offering more accurate probabilities, especially as new information becomes available. It’s worth comparing both to gain a comprehensive understanding of the expected outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular player, the higher their price rises, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market constantly adjusts to new information and changing sentiment among traders, providing a real-time assessment of the match’s potential results.
