Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective intelligence of traders on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probability of an outcome, potentially offering more favorable odds if there's disagreement between the market and the sportsbook. However, it is important to remember that both represent probabilities based on different methodologies and information sources.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is influenced by new information, expert opinions, and overall sentiment surrounding the players and the match itself. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date expectations.
