Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market is driven by individuals making their own predictions. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially early in the market lifecycle or when significant information emerges. Analyzing these differences can be valuable for informed decision-making, but remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome occurring.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing reflects the evolving sentiment of the crowd and allows for real-time adjustments based on new information or changing perceptions of the match’s likely result.
