Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market relies on individuals expressing their beliefs through trading. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a particular outcome, they can buy shares, driving up the price and potentially creating a discrepancy. It’s common to see prediction markets incorporate information and perspectives that sportsbooks may not immediately account for.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about the outcome of the Volkov vs. Karpenko fight. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the collective intelligence of the traders. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on new information and changing sentiment.
