Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd approach, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks may set lines based on power rankings or public perception, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities as the event approaches. It's common to see discrepancies, especially early on, as the prediction market incorporates a broader range of information and perspectives than traditional betting venues. This can create opportunities for arbitrage if you identify significant differences.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand.
