Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely express their beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, biases, or simply variations in opinion. It's common to see prediction markets react more quickly to new information than sportsbooks, as the price adjusts with each trade. Comparing these odds can offer valuable insights into public perception and potential value.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price converges towards what the market collectively believes is the true probability. The market depth and trading volume influence how quickly the price responds to new information or shifts in sentiment. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date expectations.
