Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, which can differ from sportsbook odds set by professionals. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like house edge and perceived public biases into their lines, while this market relies on individuals directly expressing their beliefs through trades. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when there’s significant public interest or disagreement about the likely outcome. Analyzing these differences can be insightful, as prediction markets sometimes demonstrate greater accuracy in forecasting event results.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares, the price increases, indicating growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market depth and trading volume influence how quickly prices adjust to new information or shifts in sentiment. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date collective prediction.
