Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a particular outcome, they can drive the price on Polymarket to reflect that view, potentially creating an arbitrage opportunity. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or breaking news.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes of the Kawa vs Garcia Cid match, and the price of these shares directly reflects the market’s probability assessment. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived chance of occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven entirely by supply and demand within Polymarket, meaning the market’s forecast is a direct aggregation of individual trader opinions.
