Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and biases. Sportsbooks establish lines based on their own analysis and aim to balance betting action, whereas this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant discrepancy exists, it may indicate that the crowd perceives information differently than the sportsbook, or that one venue has identified a mispricing. It’s important to consider both sources when forming your own opinion on the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price adjusts accordingly, creating a dynamic and real-time forecast. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand for these shares, making it a decentralized and transparent indicator of expectations.
