Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from initial sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to express their independent beliefs. If a significant amount of money is wagered on one outcome, the price will move accordingly, potentially signaling information not yet fully priced into traditional betting lines. It's common to see prediction markets converge with sportsbook odds as the event approaches, but divergences can occur due to differing information or analytical approaches.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price reflects the collective intelligence of all participants, making it a dynamic and responsive indicator of expectations for the Valencia tennis match.
