Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from initial sportsbook lines which may be influenced by factors like public perception or early betting action. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their risk and ensure profitability, while this market allows individuals to directly express their forecasts. It’s common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbooks as new information emerges and traders adjust their positions. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access or simply variations in analytical approaches, offering opportunities for informed traders.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts representing the probability of each outcome. The price of a contract directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring.
