Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market aims to represent the true probability as assessed by traders. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public sentiment strongly favors one outcome. Significant differences may emerge due to differing information access or varying levels of expertise among bettors and prediction market participants. Analyzing these differences can be a valuable exercise for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective wisdom of the crowd. The current price movements indicate how traders are interpreting available information about the USA vs. Hungary/Japan match.
