Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the likelihood of each outcome. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market aggregates the wisdom of the crowd, potentially identifying mispriced opportunities or incorporating information not yet reflected in sportsbook lines. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially as new information emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more traders believe Jessica Pegula will win, the price of shares representing her victory will increase, and vice versa for Sorana Cirstea.
