Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on individuals trading based on their own research and insights. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, they can influence the odds on Polymarket accordingly. This can lead to prediction market prices being more accurate, especially as the event approaches and more information becomes available. However, discrepancies can still occur due to differing risk appetites and information access.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of Maria/Sonmez winning against Alexandrova/Gibson. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price adjusts to reflect the collective view. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated and responsive to changing conditions. The current price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all traders on Polymarket.

Several factors could influence trading activity and move this market before resolution. Any news regarding player injuries, changes in playing conditions, or updates on team strategies could shift trader sentiment. Unexpected performance in preceding matches or significant changes in player form could also impact the odds. Furthermore, major upsets in other matches within the US Open could indirectly influence perceptions of the teams’ chances. Increased media coverage or expert analysis favoring one team over the other could also drive trading volume and price fluctuations in this market.
