Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by a smaller team of professionals, while this market’s odds are determined by the actions of many individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when there’s significant public information or debate surrounding an event. Analyzing these differences can be valuable for informed decision-making, but remember that both represent probabilities based on different methodologies.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, allowing traders to express their views and profit if their predictions prove correct. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the latest information and sentiment.
