Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and incorporate a margin for profit, while this market allows traders to express their own beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in opinion. It’s common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbook lines as new information becomes available and traders adjust their positions.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the market price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market remains responsive to new information and changing expectations regarding the US Open Juniors Doubles competition.
